the mood in that campaign? >> well, they kept mr. romney under wraps today in order to keep him focused. he had a very brief meeting with his senior staff and great deal today was actually spent with his staff. they don't want to leave it in the locker room they want him to come out and bring best game this evening. they are quite confident about it by virtue stepping on to the stage tonight as the challenger, mitt romney has the most to gain. they fully expect by virtue of standing next to the president there could be a bounce in the polls as a consequence of that. having said all of they're, the race to lower's examines appears to have been won by mr. rom anymore. the latest gallup poll shows fairly decisively when it comes to who voters thinks will win the debates president obama has a substantial lead. there you see it, 57% think president obama will win the three presidential debates in the next three and a half, four weeks and that governor romney will lose them or at least a third of them asked believe that. romney has the opportunity to overachieve. it's sort of what campaigns want.

about that. mr. romney has been working on ways to address the idea that he's actually running to be president for 100% of the nation. and mr. romney has frankly complained several times in recent weeks that what he's worried about is the president will misrepresent he, mr. romney's positions. the governor of massachusetts complained the romney campaign distorted his position on abortion, taxes auto bailout and other things. one of the things they're prepared for is that rhetoric coming from the president and how mr. romney would call him out for lying to the public or being deceptive. a lot of that is going to play out. it's not just a battle of facts. both mr. obama and romney will come well prepared for that. it's how they conduct themselves, how they come across to viewers and a lot of that's very, very personal. frankly, you can't really rehearse it. that's what makes the anticipation so high. the expectation game so important, it's the unscripted moment that people are watching for. bill? >> bill: 50 million plus americans watching four years ago. huge audience. >>> 25-ye

that part of the strategy mr. obama had going into last night was that he thought if he really went on the attack before such a large audience face to face with mitt romney it might back fire and look like it's beneath the dignity of the office. he may have to rethink that now with two months to go trace. >> camp claims govern romney won last night because he lied. not everybody in the democratic party is buying that, right? >> that's right. i even spoke to some obama supporters at this rally here in denver. a couple of women told me, look, they still want to vote for the president, they plan to, but they thought that mitt romney did a strong job. it wasn't because of style points. one woman used the gravitas and said he had command on the stage. none the less the obama campaign was insisting this was just about style. it was about scripted lines. while other senior democrats like charlie rangel said they are not buying that take a listen. >> something i think clint eastwood would be proud of. on substance his positions were just as empty as the chair that mr. eastwood had on stage.
